HOBBY

Hobby Loop

I do not have a fixed hobby. Generally speaking my hobby is learning about new skills/technologies related to software libraries (i.e. optimization, graphics), certain programming languages, 3D animation/graphics software or some skills.

Roughly every 3 weeks, my learning focus changes. During a such a 3-week learning spree, I spend my spare-time reading blog posts, learning from YouTube videos, talking to friends about my latest fascination. Often I come back to the same fascination again in a few months (in a giant loop). Here are a list of some noteworthy fascinations so far.

I have been tracking this awesome tool since 2012. I only started learning this tool seriously since 2016.

I use this software to explore my creative side. I really suck at paper and pencil drawing. Blender is a great way to render photorealistic scenes without knowing how to shade.

I typically do not get too much time to explore my creative side. I use this software to generate illustrations for my papers.

I have always wanted a repeatable and scalable way of setting up my software development environment. Invariably when tinkering with software libraries in Ubuntu, I almost always ended up with the dreaded error "You have held broken packages". My usual response was to save important files and reinstall Ubuntu. This was really annoying.

Quite recently, I came across Docker as a workflow tool. It has helped take the worry out of experimentation and version hell.

Now, I preach and use a Dockerized workflow to everyone I talk to.
